I had to wait up to 25 minutes for the menu, during one dinner, my dining companion received their meal a full 20 minutes before my appetizer was even brought out, and on more than one occasion, I would call the waiter over, and see them ignore me to assist other customers who asked for assistance after me.
I also did not appreciate that after check out I was not allowed back inside the dining area. I understand the COVID restrictions, but given that I had been a guest less than 3 hours prior and there was NOTHING open, not a single cafe or area for me to sit, I stood outside the hotel in the rain for an hour.
It felt like as soon as my card cleared, I was no longer a valued customer and as such, I will no longer be a future customer either.
Within staying in the hotel we have faced several major problems: our toothbrushes were not replaced, they never replenished coffee tablets, serving in the restaurant during dinner time was last day we spent in the hotel.
The General manager never wanted to meet to solve the problem. To the attention of the general manager, I am writing a letter of complaint in regards to the poor experience we had whilst staying at your property during our special occasion.
I will address below in bullet points all the issues encountered whilst staying at your property that made our stay unmemorable.
A common practise would be to show etiquette whilst serving a customer. It was evident that the room was not thoroughly cleaned.
Even the bathrobes smelled and were worn by a previous guest as it was really dirty. You can be sure that the room was not clean as there were receipts and paper left on the floor of the previous guest which I can tell you was named Ibrahim from all the paperwork found lying around.
Asking for the bed sheets to be replaced and the room thoroughly cleaned. After returning back from a long day we found that no sheets had been replaced and the room was not thoroughly cleaned you could see the tables, floor etc were still unclean with marks, stains and dust.
Not fresh as we expected. We asked a staff to provide us new sheets so that we could change it ourselves as it seemed the housekeeping had very limited knowledge in cleanliness.
When we took the sheets off, we were gobsmacked to see the filthy dirty duvet. I have attached pictures. We had to get this changed! I understand that during these uncertain times there are new measures in place with regards to how breakfast is served.
But there were a few individuals whom made the experience not good with their approach. When we came to enjoy our breakfast on most days, we had to wait a very long time to get hold of someone to plate up our breakfast.
What was very frustrating was the fact that they were in a mood and a strop. There were other parts of the buffet I wanted to get things from and not finished.
Every time you sat on it, it moved down, springy not stable. Almost felt like it was coming off the wall. When we put the lid down and had a look, we noticed that the toilet was loose from the wall.
I have attached a picture for your reference. As I was doing work from my room, I required a good connection to upload media due to the nature of my work.
The speeds I was getting was around 5mb which was considerable slow for a high-end property. I informed your colleagues but they were not able to fix the issues.
On the lockdown days we were not even able to watch any online videos without continuous buffering. I have attached a picture of the speed test result for your information.
I raised this with one of your colleagues from reception and asked if they could send someone to check on it.
But it seems my request went on deaf ears and nothing was done about it. I called guest services and told them of the issue. But their response was unhelpful.
To summarize, we gave multiple opportunities for Sofitel Taksim to make it right when we had issues. But it is apparent that our concerns were taken lightly and shrugged off.
We have been in turkey for 3 weeks and have stayed at other major properties like Hilton; Marriot. Their cleanliness and hygiene were to a high standard at all times without any compromises to their commitment.
Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the housekeeping and cleanliness provided by Sofitel Taksim especially during these uncertain times where more rigorous cleaning is required.

Location is good to get around and not too difficult to find your way to main touristy area. Breakfast was good, limited choices but this is the same in all hotels these days and the staff did there best to make up for it, always willing to help with offers of coffee, tea, fruit juice and so on a special thanks to Faik.
There were a several people that stood out but unfortunately not many of the staff had name tags. The room was well presented and it was great to get a room that was cool, have been to many hotels during the winter and the room remains at hot summer temperature over night making it uncomfortable to sleep.
Our room was cool and sleeping was no a issue especially the bed made it even easier. Arriving to the Sofitel Istanbul is arriving to a place you feel welcome and every detail is just perfect to make your time the best.
